About Us
Welcome to St Mark’s Portadown. We are a church of Ireland Parish, located in the centre of the town. We would love for you to join us for worship on a Sunday. Everyone is welcome, people of all ages, as we seek to come together as one family to worship Jesus. Aside from our Sunday services, throughout the week we aim to live out the command given in John 13:34-35:
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
Vision
Jesus’ very first sermon is recorded for us in Mark 1:15 and it says this: “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!”
Jesus’ ministry was twofold: He proclaimed the Kingdom of God; and demonstrated the power of the Kingdom of God in His healing miracles. He then sent out the 12 and the 72 to do exactly the same thing, giving them power and authority in which to do it. Therefore, in St Mark’s we believe that discipleship, outreach and evangelism are our key in proclaiming and demonstrating the kingdom of God.
We also seek to be amongst the community and aim to reach out to those in our parish and surrounding area in practical and loving ways. We do this with the hope that we can share the love of Christ with others, so that as far as possible we may be able to hear people say, as they said of the early church in Acts 2:47 “… enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
The ministry of St Mark’s Church is to make disciples who will go into the world to preach and demonstrate the Kingdom of God in both word and deed.
